Teradata Partners User Conference & Expo

NHC attended this years Teradata Partners Conference which ran from the 6th to the 11th of October, 2007. This was the fourth attendance over the last six years and illustrates NHC's commitment to continue to be at the leading edge of developments of the Teradata Data Warehouse environment.

The conference is regularly attended by over 3000 delegates from Teradata customers and staff members. There are over 200 sessions over 5 streams at the conference with both technical and business speakers. It is an excellent opportunity to meet other users from across the world and share ideas and best practice.

Disaster Recovery

In this example project from major UK Clearing Bank, Disaster Recovery was an issue. The large GDW environment that contained significant customer information had an outdated and inadequate disaster recovery solution.

Deliverables

Over a period of two years Nigel transformed the environment, introducing a Dual Active DW facility where all identified key data is immediately available and all key processes, applications and power users able to operate unaffected in a major disaster situation. The £10m+ solution also makes full use of all hardware purchased and was managed against a challenging time deadline and within the agreed budget.

How?

  • Co-ordinated a comprehensive review of the data and business requirements
  • Identified the appropriate technical solution and discussed details with supplier, producing proposal
  • Convinced the directors of the need for significant investment to solve the problem and of the cost effective nature of the solution
  • Set up the project management approach and appointed the internal project manager
  • Led the programme Steering Group and facilitated the interfaces between the business and IT during the project
  • Ensured the business operated successfully during the transition as the solution was phased in. Without this the project implementation and successful delivery would have been severely impacted

Data Warehousing

Recent example contract involved working with Teradata EMEA Centre of Expertise where Nigel was responsible for developing and presenting the approaches and presentation materials for 2 major programmes.

AEI (Active Enterprise Intelligence) involves the expansion of usage of the Data Warehouse into near real time examples delivered across multi-channels, further extending the value and income derived from data held on the Data warehouse, making such data available to Operational parts of the business.

Business Continuity built upon Nigel’s experiences at Lloyds TSB. During this period he developed a BCMA (Business Continuity Maturity Assessment) model, dovetailing with the Teradata DWMA (Data Warehouse Maturity Assessment) service that they provide. The BCMA consists of a series of scored questions covering vital areas of a business to assess their ability to recover from a disaster should it occur.

Nigel’s company provides this and similar services to clients.
